Phytosanitary
Scouting
on a Phone.

A demonstration of mobile-based AI vision for SENASICA- and CRT-compliant phytosanitary inspection — covering the Quarterly Physical Census and the Bi-Weekly Weevil Trapping Program.

Regulatory Context
The CRT Requires Full Traceability. FarmAgent Delivers It.

Mexico's phytosanitary framework demands a closed, auditable chain from Mother Garden to Movement Passport — governed by SENASICA, CRT, and reported through SIVEA.

  • Plot Registration — Every lot registered with CRT number and Folio Geográfico
  • Quarterly Census — 100-plant minimum per lot; 1% sampling above 5 ha
  • Bi-Weekly Trapping — Weevil count per trap every 15 days
  • SIVEA Upload — Incidence, severity, organism, and actions all required fields
  • NOM-006-SCFI-2012 — Tequila specification compliance from field to bottle
Today, most operators re-enter paper data into SIVEA hours or days after the inspection. That gap is where compliance breaks down.

Process 1 · Quarterly Physical Census
Visual Disease Classification — In Real Time

The scout walks the lot in a zig-zag or X pattern. At each plant, they aim their smartphone at the pencas and piña base.

  • AI classifies leaf symptoms — circular gray spots, apical yellowing, aqueous necrotic lesions — instantly
  • Severity rated 0–4 per SENASICA scale, pre-filled in the logbook with a single confirmation tap
  • Core rot check — scout presses the piña base; soft or foul-smelling is flagged as a Focus of Infestation
  • 15% threshold auto-trigger — system flags the lot for mandatory intervention when incidence exceeds the SENASICA threshold

Vision Technology · Disease Classification
Four Pathogens. One Camera. Instant Classification.

FarmAgent's general Vision model detects the four primary disease phenotypes across varying lighting, growth stages, and leaf orientations.

  • Asternina mexicanacircular gray spots (mancha gris) on pencas
  • Fusarium oxysporumapical yellowing (marchitez), wilting
  • Erwinia carotovoraaqueous necrotic lesions, soft rot at the piña
  • Scyphophorus sp.entry bore holes, hollow heart indicators
The model does not replace the scout's judgment — it amplifies it. A 100-plant lot census that previously took 4–5 hours can now be completed and documented in under 2.5 hours, with full digital chain of custody.

Process 2 · YOLO Object Detection · Bi-Weekly Trapping
Automated Weevil Counts — 3 Seconds Per Trap

Pheromone-baited bucket and sandwich traps are inspected every 15 days. Manual counting is tedious and operator-dependent.

FarmAgent applies a YOLO real-time object detection model trained specifically on Scyphophorus acupunctatus — the Agave Weevil — that counts every adult insect in the trap from a single photograph.

  • Distinguishes adult weevils from debris, ants, and other insects
  • Count logged automatically against Trap ID and Folio Geográfico
  • Weevils-per-trap-per-day calculated in real time
> 1.0
SENASICA Action Threshold
Weevils / trap / day triggers mandatory chemical intervention. FarmAgent flags this automatically at every inspection.

Platform Feature · Visual Localizer & GPS
Every Observation — GPS-Pinned, Photo-Verified, Auditable

Every disease rating, weevil count, photograph, and scout identity is anchored to a GPS coordinate in real time — within 3 metres of the affected plant.

  • Spatially-explicit inspection record — CRT inspector can see exactly which plants were checked and when
  • Infestation Focus visualization — hot zones appear on the map before the scout finishes the lot
  • Photo chain of custody — timestamped, scout-attributed, available for CRT audit at any time
  • Sample ID generation — date, GPS, collector, and lot ID automatically bundled for lab submission
The CRT inspector arrives to a property and finds the complete digital record already uploaded — every lot, every inspection date, every photograph — ready for review.

SIVEA Integration · Automatic Reporting
SIVEA Submission Built During the Inspection — Not After

When the quarterly inspection is complete, FarmAgent calculates incidence automatically and pre-populates the SIVEA required fields:

  • Folio Geográfico — GPS-linked plot ID
  • Organismo Plaga — scientific name of every detected pest
  • HospedanteAgave tequilana Weber
  • Nivel de Infestación — incidence % vs. severity score, auto-calculated
  • Acciones Fitosanitarias — intervention logged and linked to CRT agroservices number
If ≥ 15% of plants show low severity or ≥ 8% show high severity, the system automatically declares an Infestation Focus and notifies the local Phytosanitary Subcommittee.
